Indian Coffee
Indian coffee stands apart from that of Colombia, Brazil, Kenya, Vietnam, and Ethiopia due to its distinctive cultivation methods, rich flavour profile, and environmental sustainability.
Shade Grown Excellence
Indian coffee is among the few in the world that is shade-grown - cultivated under tree canopies rather than direct sunlight. This method enhances the flavour profile, producing more complex and delicious coffee. Shade-grown coffee also supports biodiversity, conserves water, and mitigates deforestation. By creating a natural ecosystem, it fosters a habitat for insects, birds, and wildlife while also reducing the carbon footprint through carbon dioxide sequestration.
Hand Picked Quality
Indian coffee is hand-picked, ensuring only the ripest, highest-quality beans are harvested. This selective process avoids underripe or damaged beans, which can negatively affect flavour and quality—a precision that machine harvesting cannot replicate.
Sun Dried Perfection
The sun-drying method allows coffee beans to mature at a slower pace, enhancing their flavour and aroma. Beans are spread on patios as well as raised beds and dried naturally under the sun, ensuring even drying and unlocking their full flavour potential.
Unique Terroir
The coffee is cultivated in laterite soils rich in iron oxide, formed by weathering diverse rocks under oxidising and leaching conditions. This unique soil composition contributes to the Indian coffee's distinctive characteristics.
Flavour Profile
Indian coffee is renowned for its moderate body and acidity, balanced by a rich flavour profile. Characterised by a medium to full body, it often exhibits complex, spicy notes, including hints of cardamom, clove, pepper, nutmeg, and subtle tropical fruit undertones.
By choosing Indian coffee, consumers enjoy a distinctive and flavourful experience while supporting environmentally sustainable practices that uphold the rich heritage of Indian coffee cultivation.

What is Speciality Coffee?:
Speciality Coffee is premium coffee grown with meticulous care at the right elevation, temperature conditions, and excellent soil. It is then carefully picked and harvested at just the perfect time. When licensed Q-graders (CQI) and certified coffee tasters (SCAA) grade the coffee, Speciality coffee typically scores 80 points or above. It is the highest-quality coffee available in the world. In essence, the term "Speciality Coffee" defines a commitment to excellence throughout the entire coffee journey, from cultivation and harvesting to processing, roasting, and brewing. It stands apart from commodity coffee in several key ways:
1. Quality Standards: Cupping score undertaken annually by certified Q graders provided upon request.
2. Origin and Traceability: APD Specialty Coffee from Hiregudda Estate with altitude of 3100 ft, Arabica Selection 9 varietal, average rainfall of 100 inches per year
3. Cultivation: Iron rich laterite soil and sustainable farming practices such as use of vermicompost which enhances the quality of the beans and preserves the environment.
4. Processing: The coffee cherries are hand-picked by skilled workers when they turn crimson red to ensure that only the best cherries are used.
5. Roasting: Our coffee beans are roasted freshly upon order in small batches with precise control over temperature and time to bring out the best in each bean. This results in each cup's distinctive and unique flavour profile.
6. Brewing: APD strongly recommends pour-over methods such as French Press, Aeropress and V60. Upon order, we grind as well as espresso grind to enable delicious expresso brews like cappuccino, latte and cortado. Cold brews are also delicious alternatives with our Specialty Coffee.
